RE: Gmail

Yes, Yahoo has POP, but they don't have IMAP. Gmail has both. There is a difference between POP and IMAP. Check it out. Thus, if you want/need IMAP (as I do), forget Yahoo.

RE: Broken Holding Tank Drain

... I'm going to have to spend $60k or more before I'm going to get anything of quality construction. :R Possibly. It's not a given, however, that if you spend more you get better. Maybe, but not always.

RE: do i need a new truck

... Can someone please explain why a little tractor hauling 2 huge tandem trailers IS NOT a safety issue, while a large Suburban hauling one modest trailer IS a safety issue? Well, there's actually more than one reason, but the main one is because the pivot point where the "little tractor" connects to it's trailers is directly over it's rear axle and not 4 foot behind it.

RE: 30 to 50 AMP

HI , can i change my TT to 50 AMP from 30 amp because i put in all electic frig. and water heater... Yes, it is possible for someone who knows electricity AND knows how a TT is wired to change it from 30A to 50A.

RE: generator purchase

10 dB = ten times as loud. 3 dB = twice as loud. 1 dB = minimum detectable (by human ear) difference in volume. Not exactly... A 3db increase is a doubling of sound pressure (energy); however, it takes a 10db increase in sound pressure to be perceived by the average human ear as a doubling of the sound level. In generator terms, that means one running at 68db will sound approximately twice as loud as one running at 58db.

Anyone creating an unsafe condition and harms me or my family will be addressed to the maximum of the law. Since GCVWR is not law, you have no law to address anyone with. Didn't mention 'law', you read that into it... ROTFLMAO :B :B :B

RE: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info.

I see that while I've been away camping it's been asserted that in my post of 7/24 I stated something "contrary" to fact. As I've never been one to argue, I will not do that here; accordingly, this will be my one and only follow-up post on this subject. :) Basically, the statements I made in my post on 7/24 were based upon specific experiences that I have had in my 40+ years as a technician/engineer in the electronics industry. However, I'm not trying to convince anyone of anything, I'm merely making a statement based on what I have personally experienced. If you've experienced something different than what I've experienced---hey, no problem; go with what your experience tells you is fact. That for sure is what I'm going to continue to do. ;)

RE: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info.

Yeah, it'll measure 120V with a multimeter; if you looked at the AC waveform on an oscilloscope, though, you would see that it's not a nice sinusoidal shape. It's not unusual for digital type electronics especially to exhibit the kind of behavior you describe when powered by such "dirty" power. Your Honda uses a different type of generator technology than your Power Pro, and thus delivers a cleaner, more sinusoidal waveform.

RE: Cell Phone Booster

... So I bought a system using the amplifier JConaster says puts out 1.23 watts instead of 3 watts ... Uhhh... no, I didn't say that.

I also use the NoScript plug-in for Firefox. The author doesn't charge for the program, but I sent him $10 a month or so ago, as I'm very pleased with how well it works.

RE: How Long should it take for refridgerator to cool?

As most everyone else has stated, turn it on at least a day before you head out, as it's normal for it to take that long to cool down. If you forget and only have a couple/three hours lead time, load as many of those frozen ice packs in it that you can get when you turn it on, as that'll help it cool down a whole lot quicker.

RE: Cell Phone Booster

Most everybody seems to like Wilson; I've also used Wilson antennas over the years (mainly CB) and they seem to work okay. However, I will never, ever buy another Wilson product, as I have determined to my own satisfaction that they engage in deceptive selling practices at the least, and at the most, outright lies. How did I determine this? Read on: One day a couple years ago I ran across the Smoothtalker web site someone referenced earlier in this thread. If you read all the text on the Smoothtalker home page you will find that it contains the following statement: "Wilson brand boosters and repeaters have several models of amplifiers and some are rated at 3-watts and some are not, however, they or their re-sellers claim that all of these devices are 3-watts when they certainly are not. In the case of the latest Wilson model wireless repeater advertised for use in home and vehicle, the certificate for FCC ID# PWO8012SM states 1.23 watts maximum. The Wilson user manual for this device states "Linear Output Power 30 dBm" which equals 1 watt, but the same user manual for this repeater states "Maximum Output Power 3 watts (Cell Site Controlled)". Firstly, the cell site does not control the amplifier, the cell site controls the phone's output power. Secondly, this model series of Wilson repeater which is advertised as a 3-watt repeater by all who re-sell this amplifier/repeater is not a 3 watt device. This information is mis-leading and untrue. This repeater is 1 watt not 3 watt capable." Well, if there's one thing I hate, it's liars. So I sent Wilson an email telling them about the statement I had found on the Smoothtalker site and how that all I was wanting was a simple Yes or No answer to the following question: Is the Wilson Wireless Repeater (FCC ID#PWO8012SM) able to deliver 3 Watts of output power as their marketing claims, or is the maximum output power 1.23 Watts as stated in the Repeater's FCC certificate? Very simple, right? Either the Repeater is able to deliver 3 Watts or it's not. We're not talking rocket science here, we're talking honesty. Well, a day or so later I got an email from a lady at Wilson thanking me for my interest in Wilson products and saying that she would forward my question to their technical department. Their tech people were really busy, she said, so it might take a while to get an answer. About two months later I still had not received an answer, so I sent off another email asking where might my answer be. A few days later I got a reply from the same lady at Wilson saying that she was sorry I hadn't got an answer from anyone but she would forward the question to their Tech Dept again. A few days later I got an email from someone in the Tech Dept at Wilson. He started out by saying that yes, they were aware of the statements made on the Smoothtalker web site and that their lawyers were looking into the matter. He then went on for a couple of paragraphs talking about how complicated cellular wireless was and threw out a few technical terms and concepts about how it worked--- basically, he was trying to baffle me with BS. He ended by telling me to be rest assured that Wilson products were very good products. I wrote him back and thanked him for his answer, telling him that yes, I understood how complicated electronics and wireless communication could be, since my whole life had been spent in the electronics field and that's where most all of my knowledge and expertise was. However, I said, the question that I posed is not technical or complicated at all. Basically, the Wilson Repeater is either capable of putting out 3 Watts of power or it's not. All I want to know is, can it put out 3 Watts, or does it put out 1.23 Watts as stated in it's FCC certificate? This time I didn't get an answer. I guess they were kinda hoping and figuring that if they stayed silent I'd forget about the whole thing and go away. I actually did forget about it for a while. I kept the thread of emails, though, and probably 8 or 10 months later I ran across them one day. So, I send off another email saying how it's now been over a year and I still haven't got a simple Yes or No answer to my simple Yes or No question. Is there ANYONE at Wilson able to answer my simple Yes or No question, I asked? A few days later I get an email back from someone at Wilson saying that they had said all they were going to say about the subject, they considered the matter closed, and that the email I was reading would be the last I would get from them. I sent an email back to them summarizing the whole series of events, saying that the only conclusions one could logically draw were that the Smoothtalker web site statements were correct. Anyway, they were right. That was the last email I received from them. Like I said above, I'll never buy another Wilson product. The only question I occasionally wonder about is whether or not the Wilson guy who founded the company actually knows that this kind of stuff is going on. From what I had read about him over the years, he was supposed to be a fine, upstanding individual with good values, etc.---basically, not the kind of guy who would sell products using dishonest marketing tactics. Who knows?... I don't. I just know I'll never buy another Wilson product.

RE: Please let this be normal and not my new rig.

Basically, it's highly recommended to carry something with you when camping (Multi-meter, Kill-A-Watt device, DVM, etc.) that you can use to check voltages at the campground pedestal AND inside your RV, as needed. The situation you experienced is a textbook example of an excellent time to use that device. In fact, I would also recommend you do as I do, which is to check the pedestal voltage every time you hook up, plus a few times during the stay---especially on hot days when everybody and their brother's Air Conditioner is being ran. As others have stated, almost for sure the problem was low voltage at the campground pedestal. I also agree with nbounder about not using the Air Conditioner at all with less than 110V, as it's very possible to ruin the Compressor by doing so. Indeed, unless it was an emergency situation I'd refrain from using ANY AC powered device in my RV if the supply voltage was less than 110V. As the old saying goes: "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."

RE: Just towed my TT for the trip and I have questions...

... Do not become a downhill racer. ... Going faster down hills can get dangerous very quickly as both maneuvering and braking get more tedious exponentially with speed. Be safe. I definitely agree with this. All it takes is one bad "happening" (tire blowing out, a sudden really bad crosswind, a wreck suddenly happening directly in front of you, etc.) and suddenly you're in a world of hurt. I constantly think of stuff like this when I'm towing, and shudder just to think of something happening to my wife/kids/grandkids because of me not having enough sense to drive at a safe speed. Whatever you do, make safety your #1 prority.

RE: Just towed my TT for the trip and I have questions...

IMO, for both safety and wear and tear reasons, a more reasonable speed expectation for that truck/trailer combo is 55/60, maybe getting up to 65 or so down hills as long as weather and road conditions permit. I would also consider it normal pulling down to 45/50 going up hills (even lower on the really steep ones).

RE: Best Free Hard Drive Eraser

Great post, Rick Jay. I daresay that 90% of computer users aren't aware of the info you just presented. The card catalog analogy is probably the best I've heard as a way to make people understand how formating, partitioning, etc., doesn't eliminate their data from a HD.

RE: Bootable backup drive?

... I don't offload anything. It is all online. I also have all "my stuff" stored online, as I don't like the idea of losing "my stuff" because of some kind of disaster like fire, flood, tornado, etc. However, I also don't like the idea of having to have Web access in order to retrieve "my stuff". What if my computer's HD craps out and, for whatever reason, I don't have Web access and won't be able to get it for awhile? That would mean, of course, that no matter how bad I might need access to "my stuff", I'm out of luck during that period of time! At least for me, the above kind of scenario is simply unacceptable, and is why I keep a copy of my stuff in three places: 1)my computer 2)online, on two different servers 3)an external USB drive that is an exact clone of my computer's HD and which I have the ability to restore onto any computer with any size HD
